Sweet, sweet Spring time. We thrive this time of year. We would like to congratulate all of our friends on making it through yet another Kentucky winter. With that in mind, it's time to dust off the snow and prepare for the warm months ahead!

We sat down and came up with top priorities for polishing our outdoor spaces. These are great ideas whether you are staying put in your current home OR thinking of selling.

We organized our tips into two different categories: Pretty and Practical. Let's just say some tasks are more exciting than others… but all are important.

PRETTY

  1. Layered landscaping

Start with your shrubs and layer flowers in front. Starview is one of our favorite local greenhouses. Place a few potted flowers/plants as well! Plant One on Me is a great new shop in Main Street and they have a beautiful potted plant options.

  2. Bring in fabric and other textures

Swap out cushions, pillows and rugs. If you already have outdoor seating, maybe you just need a change in color palette. Coordinate some new cushions, throw pillows and an outdoor rug.

  3. Curb appeal

Add some modern house numbers to your home. You could also upgrade a garage door by swapping out coach lights or adding carriage style garage door hardware.

  4. Paint

You name it, we'd paint it. Maybe this year you go bold and paint your exterior brick. You could also paint your shutters or front door in a new fresh color!

PRACTICAL

  1. Spruce up flower beds

Re-mulch flower beds and edge around your lawn. Start killing and pulling weeds! It's the worst part of the job, but one of the most rewarding!

  2. Evaluate your decking

Replace any loose boards and re-seal at a minimum. Clean or replace as you see fit.

  3. Clean off patio furniture

If your cushions have been outside, pressure wash them and let them air dry. If you had them stored, you can spot treat them with Folex cleaner and a microfiber cloth.

  4. General cleaning

Pressure wash any siding, clean windows and screens from the outside, and dust and polish outdoor light fixtures. It's also the perfect time of year to check your gutters. Clean them out and make sure your downspouts are extended several feet from the house.
